The bayonet serves as a secondary weapon should the rifle develop a stoppage.
In hand-to-hand encounters the bayonet may be used as a hand held weapon.
The M7 Bayonet is used as a bayonet on the M16 Rifle series, the M4 Carbine and as a hand weapon.
