Military Explosives and Demolitions

This is a home made ANFO (ammonium nitrate fuel oil) explosive that I made at a family reunion in South Georgia in October of 2000. The bomb was made of five 5 gallon buckets full of ANFO. I do not know how much this charge weighed? This is the largest charge I have made sense being out of the Army National Guard in January of 1997.

Explosives are fun, but are very dangerous and you need to stay back from them when they are detonated. At least 300 meters, that is 3 football fields away. Click here to see the safety table from FM 5-34 Engineers Field Data. Cause it clearly states that "minimum safe distance for personnel in the open when detonating explosives in 300 meters or 900 feet for 1 to 27 pounds of it.
